One The Only Credible First-Hand Accounts Of The Kid And The Corrupt Goings On In New Mexico

It's hard to find a book on the Kid or the so-called Lincoln County War or the greater conflicts in territorial New Mexico that is totally free of errors. This book is no different - but its errors are forgivable for the wealth of good, credible information it provides.
In fact, George Coe's book is one of the most widely quoted resource, in any halfway decent book about these times - exactly because of its credibility.
What's wrong about it are his descriptions of the Kid's origins and childhood. But that came before he knew the Kid. What comes before and after those passages is golden - and highly enlightening.
This book was acclaimed by the New York Times when it first came out in the 1930s and that also tends to verify the book's veracity.
Unlike most other books about this subject, there's little in the way of detectable spin - although Coe was clearly an ally of the Kid, he clearly makes an honest effort to present the facts as they happened.
I highly recommend this book.

Great history research

I found this book while tracing my family tree.It is well written and gives a good account of what happened with Coe's association with Billy the kid. I recommend Frontier fighter for a interesting read and as a history research tool.
