This book is alternately inspiring and terrifying.

Inspiring to see the raw energy of so many talented designers. Terrifying in the overwhelming number of beautiful, spontaneously rendered concepts.

Most of my sketchbooks have phone numbers and lists of "people I think are a jerk today".

For seasoned designers, it's a rare glimpse into the intimate workings of other professionals process. For students it's an alternate textbook, a real world look at the work that goes into creating all those shiny design annual pieces.

Moving conclusion to A Modern Comedy.

Jon has returned to England. His return brings an end to the peace of mind of Fleur and Michael. Jon may have moved on and fallen in love again with Ann, but Fleur has never loved everyone but Jon.

Swan Song has many of the usual Forsyte book tropes-- commentary on modern life offered through the observations of old men; June introducing us to the latest artistic schools; Forsyte paralysis when faced with the unblinking desire to do the wrong thing. As with the five books preceding this, it is all wonderfully well written. Michael and Fleur encountering people doing the Charleston is a particularly charming moment.

Swan Song is so powerful partly because of the mixed emotions it has about Fleur. While Galsworthy gamely soldiers on to complete the cycle of doom begun by Soames and Irene, it is evident that he has a great deal of sympathy for Fleur. This installment shows her at her best as well as showing her at her worst. She is the swan of the book, singing her loveliest song. A worthy ending to the second Forsyte trilogy and a very readable instalment in this underappreciated series.

About the Author
Apostolis K. Salkintzis, Motorola Inc., Greece Received his Diploma in 1991 and his Ph.D. degree in 1997, both from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Democritus University of Thrace, Xanthi, Greece Worked as a research Engineer at the Democritus University, studying mobile data networks and working on research projects dealing with the design and implementation of wireless data networks and protocols. Was a Sessional Lecturer at the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, The University of British Columbia, Canada, in 1999. Has been with Motorola Inc., since Sept. 1999, working on the design and standardization of modern telecommunication networks, focusing in particular on GPRS, UMTS and WLANs. Is a member of the IEEE and a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece.

Nikos Passas, University of Athens, Greece Received his Diploma (honours) from the Department of Computer Engineering, University of Patras, Greece, and his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications, University of Athens, Greece. Has been with the Communication Networks Laboratory of the University of Athens, working as a sessional lecturer and research associate since 1995.

Thought provoking, depressingly accurate reading!

While researching the topic of American lobbying in the Senate for a Political Science paper, I stumbled upon this book. After reading it cover to cover (unlike the first reviewer), I can attest to its accuracy and excellent content. The effect large corporations have on influencing the democratic goings-on in Washington cannot be understated, and the authors of this book make no attempt to do so. Selecting a few of the most socially-harmful industries (such as gambling and tobacco), Passas and Goodwin carefully illustrate how they influence legislation and win favor thanks to their deep pockets and use of savvy and unscrupulous lobbyists. This book is highly recommended to anyone concerned with the way democracy operates in America.

Liberal Garbage

I saw this book in a book store one day and did some light reading. If I could give it less than one star I would. Our system is not perfect. It never was intended to be. The writers of this atrocity and those who think in similar manners, would be the first victims (professional victims) in the world they envision. Talk about harmful social consequences. I guess it is a popular topic for the Volvo driving Latte sipping crowd.

About the Author
Immediately recognizable by his flamboyant waxed moustache, Salvatore Dalí (1904-89) ranks among the most popular of the Surrealists. Best remembered for the melting clocks of The Persistence of Memory, the Spanish painter also worked in theater, fashion, and photography.

mr. S DALI is of course, right out of his mind, however his insanity was very methodical. he was a master. his book: a delightful read for the artist and dali enthusiaist alike. what more do you need to know. informative and entertaining. buy two or more copies because it also makes a great gift for the mad genius in your life.

This is an incredible, weird book that every artist should read! Dali has a beautiful, lyrical writings style that's filled with humor. Dr. K. C. Hong is the founding president of KCH Consulting Inc. that provides technical consulting services on thermal recovery and reservoir management to the oil industry worldwide. He retired from Chevron Corporation in 1997 after 34 years of distinguished service in research and field assignments, the last of which was Senior Advisor-Reservoir Engineer. Dr. Hong has done much to advance enhanced oil recovery using steam, reservoir management, and compositional thermal simulation. He has authored over 50 technical papers in the areas of chemical and petroleum engineering and holds 9 U.S. patents. He continues to teach a continuing education course based on the subject book. He was honored with the Thermal and Heavy Oil Pioneer Award in 1999 and the Distinguished Technical Achievement Award in 2001.

There is plenty of solid information here about Mandela's life although for greater detail you'll need a book with more than 30 pages. I would use this book to get the child started or with a youngster who isn't a big reader. Then, for more depth, switch to a lengthier volume. For an overview this biography works just fine.
